Synopsis

Johnny & Minnie Makhija, husband and wife, are famous actors from a renowned theatre company in Ludhiana. During a performance of Hamlet, a young and handsome soldier of an underground rebel organization leaves just as Johnny begins the soliloquy, “To be or not to be”. Johnny is outraged. Johnny would be even more outraged if he knew that Sukhi visited Minnie Makhija in her dressing room. A short time later, following the prohibition orders of the government, all performances are stopped, theatres are closed, and artists are hunted to be prosecuted or killed if they, even as much as smelled of, dissent or revolt. Johnny & Minnie’s theatre is ransacked, and they are forced to hide underground. The plot becomes complex as Johnny tries to impersonate and explores an escape for the group..

This masterpiece pairs comic absurdity with grim reality. Within the dismal setting of Indian bans, censorships and general crackdowns on comedians, journalists, writers and artists, absolutely all stakeholders participate in this comedy.
