Synopsis

**The Marriage Proposal** by Anton Chekhov is a  one-act farce that centers on a marriage proposal gone awry. A landowner visits his neighbor with the intention of proposing but quickly gets entangled in petty arguments over minor issues, such as land boundaries and hunting dogs. Instead of focusing on love, the characters become consumed by pride and stubbornness, escalating the situation into absurdity. Despite the squabbles, the marriage proposal proceeds, showcasing Chekhov’s satirical take on human nature, pride, and how trivial matters can disrupt significant moments in life.
